I have experienced 3 of 5 moments and they were great moments, WotR, BG3, and Starfield. I really enjoyed BG3's in particular. I'm a huge save scummer, as I usually only play a game once and thus try to get the best ending the first time, but BG3's Dark Urge moment with Alfria was so unexpected and earned that I decided to roll with it. This moment also played into the my roleplay since I was redemption seeking Durge Bard that kept and used her, technically her teacher's, lute for the rest of game as a reminder of what happens when he doesn't fight his urges. I slightly regretted committing to killing her when in Act 3 I didn't get the achievement of saving all the tieflings.

Ocarina of Time. Realizing the terrible mistake you’re about to make literally seconds before the end of the childhood section… and then awakening into the adult world where everything that was once familiar and safe has become warped and dangerous. One of the best “loss of innocence” narratives in any medium, ever.

I loved your real time play through of BG3. I’d love to see you stream a play through of WOTR! I’m one of those people who make a million builds and can’t get through the 3rd chapter without resetting. I would love to see what happens next with your commentary.

To be honest my favorite part of WOTR was the ending quest for the Romance of Arueshalae. It was the first time I've ever consider something like a romance in games, and was expecting a sort of more "oh she's the succubus you have lots of 'cheap body-to-body interaction'" type of quest, but in the end, I've accompanied a really complex, well written and interesting character, struggling with her past into the path of, until now, unheard of redemption. And I realize: I care about her and this makes me happy. I was blown away

    1. The haunted house in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. I'll never forget that experience. Also going into the doctor's office was one of those moments where you realize you're not in Kansas anymore. 2. Lasing down the Reaper in Mass Effect 3 as the Quarians were doing an orbital strike. 3. System Shock 2 the reveal moment and the ending. 4. Dragon Age 2 - Where you have to kill Merrill's home village. 5. Baldur's Gate 2 - "YOU SHOULD HAVE NOT COME TO THIS PLACE!" "AHH we are all friends now. Hamsters and Rangers everywhere REJOICE!!" 6. KoTOR 1 - The reveal moment. 7. XCom 2 - Beating Long War the first time.

Some of my favorite moments in spoiler free fashion... - Trails in the Sky First Chapter - The ending. - Trails in the Sky 3rd Chapter - Kevin's backstory Honestly all five could be from the Trails franchise so I'll leave it there. That series just had so many character moments and interactions both dramatic and mundane that I loved. - Warcraft 3 - The ending of the human campaign and its transition to the start of the undead campaign. - RE4 survive the cabin invasion with your allies. - FF1 Building a bridge after defeating Garland. This might not be my first favorite moment in gaming but its the earliest one that comes to mind that still resonates with me when replaying the game as an adult.

It's really simple, but jumping through the spider web on the ground floor of the deku tree dungeon in Ocarina of Time still stands out to me. It's the first dungeon in the game and it happens right after the tutorial that breaks down the controls. You enter on the ground floor and the first thing you do is walk over the spider web and start climbing into different rooms, which are all self-contained. Eventually you get to the top of the tree and can't climb any higher. That's when it clicks that you can use your momentum from jumping from the top of the dungeon to break through the webbing on the ground floor to get to the second half of the dungeon below the tree's roots. The one movement connects the whole dungeon together. The selling point of the N64 is that it could render 3D worlds and, as somebody who had been playing on a Sega Genesis before, this was a big deal to me. That puzzle was the thing that really let it sink in.

How to build them so that they don't suck. Also what are your favorite companions and why? - team composition. Who shouf he on your team and why?

Oh man, that’s hard. Let’s try to narrow it down to 5: 1) There is a mission in Mafia (the original) where you are tasked with assassinating a Don of a competing crime family - mission is scripted, there is a chase and it ends in one of two possible places with a cutscene. I didn’t seen those - I managed to catch up with the car during the chase, and rammed it hard enough for it to topple and land on the roof. I walked out of the car, and finished the job with a sawed-off shotgun. Delightfully, the game played a long, NPCs recognised that the mission was accomplished, and we rode home to wrap the mission up. I knew I “broke” the mission, narratively it worked really well, and it was superb that the game didn’t cheat the victory away 2) in Witcher1 there was a quest assigned from an undercover enemy. It was the first time I have seen an game treat a quest as something I might have not want to complete without heavily signaling it, and I found it quite satisfying to defy the quest giver. It also helps that my laptop at the time couldn’t run it, so I played through the title on my friends laptop skipping one night per week. That was quite a feverdream. 3) Gothic - I remember getting offered an escort to the Sleeper camp. I refused I and went on my own - took a shortcut through the woods and run into Shadowbeast - mauled me in one hit. Many hours later I was tasked with killing one. It is still my fondest memory of experiencing an RPG power curve. 4) Discoveing UGO: Enemy Unknown through DOS emulator, and learning of systemic interactivity, finding unorthodox solutions to problems through logical use of game’s systems - plus bunch of cool stuff that would happen unintentionally. Silly stuff - like realising I can stun a valuable enemy, put him in my inventory and evac - or that I through clips to my soldiers, or prime multiple granades and suicide bomb tough enemies. 5) like all of Planescape Torment? From solving quests by killing myself, pondering my characters intention when picking a dialogue line, having to find a teacher to learn a class, and of course for the time the unusually self reflective “What can change the nature of the man” moment.

One of my favorites from recent years was the new ending in the Cyberpunk 2077 dlc. Without spoilers, I'll just say it was shocking, subversive, and made me rethink what it means to be a protagonist-in-a--video-game. Perfect.

I actually enjoyed "Fire Emblem Fates". Conquest, especially. Yes, the story could've been better, and Birthright was a bit too easy. But it was my intro to Fire Emblem as a series, and I loved all the characters in it. So many of them were really memorable and distinct from each other. Conquest also had some seriously good gameplay and challenge to it. Probably best in the series. (That said, "Shadows of Valentia" is definitely tied with it for favourite.)

Yeah, that Dark Urge moment... I'm glad / hate / love that I fell for the troll trap laid pre-launch by Larian recommending not playing as Durge for the first run, and still thought my dream came true, that something I did different in the early game actually made A-a decide to join my party instead of following her incredibly sweet storyline with L-a, that I had already seen to (almost, sans epilogue) completion, on the previous run. Absolutely a most memorable moment, one of my favorite worst heartbreaking moments in gaming, second only to a similar moment on the Lich mythic path in Wrath of the Righteous, where I accidentally laid the trap for myself by taking the opportunity to romance the obviously irredeemably evil alternative companion. Two of my most beloved characters in gaming, that the narrative of my favorite games unexpectedly used with shocking affect.
